What movie do we watch? Your streaming services in, tonight's movie out.
Tell Lights Down which services you have and how long you've got. Each of you picks between pairs of posters for a minute — pass the phone — and it ranks what you can actually stream tonight: a weighted roll, a bracket, the party wheel, and "ends by 10:52 pm" before you press play.
What you get
This or That — twelve quick poster duels each. Hand the phone over; your picks are merged so that one person's hard no works as a veto.
Tonight — what streams on your services, ranked by fit and rating, with a weighted roll, "ends by" on the clock, and where to press play.
Bracket — 8 or 16 of tonight's best, genre against genre, taking turns. Optional spin-to-win wheel for overrules.
Find New — hidden gems (well rated, fewer votes) that fit your picks, with the reasons.
Compare — with Letterboxd: films you both loved, films one of you should show the other, and what you each watched last.
Questions people ask
What movie should we watch tonight?
Tell Lights Down which streaming services you have and how long you have got. Each of you picks between pairs of posters for about a minute, and it ranks what is actually streaming for you tonight; then roll, run a bracket or spin the wheel to settle it.
Does it know what we have already seen?
Only if you add Letterboxd usernames: it reads each member's public diary feed (their latest entries) and hides films either of you logged in the last 90 days. No streaming service shares your watch history, and there is nothing to log in to.
Which streaming services does it know?
Every service TMDB lists for your country: Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Max, Hulu, Apple TV+, Paramount+, Peacock, Tubi, Pluto TV, Kanopy, the Criterion Channel and dozens more. Availability comes from JustWatch via TMDB and changes daily, so every pick links to the live list.
How does "ends by" work?
It adds the runtime to your device's clock: a 2 h 28 min movie started at 8:24 pm ends by 10:52 pm. Switch on "+ trailers" if your household cannot start a movie without twenty minutes of previews and arguing.
Why does everyone have to pick posters?
Because taste is personal. Your picks are merged with a geometric mean, so a movie only ranks high when nobody in the room hates what it is: one person's hard no works as a veto, not a vote to be outnumbered.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
Free, with no account, no login and no ads. Your services, names and picks stay in your browser.
